In Borland's World Championship debut on 17 December 2021, he was involved in an deciding leg which saw him throw a 9-dart leg against Bradley Brooks, becoming the first player to win a televised match with a nine-dart finish in Professional Darts Corporation history. With his first round victory, he secured a PDC Tour Card for 2022. He was defeated in a 3–0 whitewash by Ryan Searle in the second round.

Through Q-School Borland regained his PDC Tour Card for 2024.
